Article bodies on my site used to be typed arrays — `{ type: 'p', text: '...' }`, neat and validated. I could draft a post in fifteen minutes; I could barely face editing one. Every fix meant escaping a string, counting commas, hunting a stray quote.
I moved the bodies to MDX last week. Same words, different shell. The change looked technical, but it was really behavioral: admitting the old format was charging me a tax I'd been paying in posts I never finished. Markdown isn't fancier than the array. It's lower-friction. And friction in writing tools is silent until you measure how much you don't write.
This generalises past my site. Engineering docs, RFC templates, PR descriptions, retros — the format quietly decides how often anyone reaches for them. Pick tools that do not make you flinch. The right shape is the one you reach for on a tired Friday without thinking.
