Rest is not a reward for certainty

Jul 3, 2026#career#family

I took a short road trip to Montreal with my family after a role ended. The timing was awkward enough that part of me wanted to cancel it and stay home pretending that constant motion would turn uncertainty into control.

But rest is not only something you earn after life becomes stable. Sometimes rest is what keeps you from making every next decision from a tired and defensive place. A calendar break does not solve the job market, but it can give you enough room to remember you are more than the last thing that happened at work.

I am learning to treat recovery as part of the system, not a luxury outside it. Engineers understand capacity planning for services. We are slower to admit that people need it too.
