The moment a homepage said "Senior Engineer · Backend, Platform, Applied-AI" out loud to the public internet, the words started working on me. It is harder to half-believe a positioning sentence once someone can quote it back to you.
That is most of what shipping a personal site bought me. Not traffic. Not subscribers. A public commitment to a narrower version of what I'm choosing to be known for. The discomfort of trimming everything else out of that sentence is the point — the trim is the work.
A public site is a commitment device. You do not need a contract, a manager, or a public talk. You need a URL and the willingness to say one specific thing in front of strangers. The site does not make me a better engineer. It makes me a less hedged one, which turns out to be most of the gap.
